Fool’s Gold

Fool’s Gold was a ensemble out of Illinois recruited as a backing band for Dan Fogelberg upon the success of Fogelberg’s 1974 album Souvenirs. Having gone solo, the backup band brought forth it’s self-titled debut LP in 1976 which, like Souvenirs, was produced by Joe Walsh, who shared the same management with Fogelberg and the Eagles. Consequently, the album features Don and several members of the Eagles as guest artists. Fool’s Gold’s follow-up album Mr. Lucky was released a year later. Don lent his expertise by playing mandolin, acoustic and high-string guitar on both discs.
