The Maundy Quintet

Barely twenty years old in 1967, Don cut a record for the Tampa, Florida custom label Paris Tower as a member of the Gainesville combo known as the Maundy Quintet, which had achieved some local fame playing the Daytona Beach band scene. This is Don’s earliest known professional recording. The music for the single’s titles I’m Not Alone and 2’s Better Than Three was written by hometown friend and Maundy bandmate Bernie Leadon, who Don would re-join a few years later as a member of the Eagles. The Maundy Quintet evolved from an earlier band called The Continentals in which Don played together with a certain Stephen Stills, a musical friendship which is still intact today.
The Maundy Quintet single I’m Not Alone also appears on the compilation Psychedelic States: Florida in the Sixties Volume 3, part of a series showcasing Florida bands.
